A neighbor burning some brush Monday caused a grass fire at 3289 Ludwig that burned about a half-acre of land and portions of a fire wood pile.
Oxford firefighters were notified of the grass fire at 12:54 p.m.
Fire Chief Jack LeRoy said 15-20 mile per hour winds that day coupled with “extremely dry” ground were the reason the fire spread.
The blaze had pretty much been extinguished by the time firefighters arrived except for a few remaining “hot spots,” LeRoy said.
The chief wishes to remind residents that burn permits for brush clearing are required on parcels of one acre or larger.
The annual permits can be obtained at Fire Station #1 at Washington and Church streets and are valid throughout the burning season, which lasts from October 1 through April 30.
However, once a resident has obtained a burn permit, they still must notify the fire department prior to each burn , LeRoy said. ? C.J. Carnacchio.
