Scouts celebrate 40th anniversary

Clarkston Cub Scout Pack 341 recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Chartered with Boy Scouts of America, Pontiac-Manito District, the pack is sponsored by Bailey Lake Elementary PTA.
The pack met at Clarkston Junior High School until 1994. In 1995 it started meeting at Bailey Lake Elementary. The number of boys involved varied from 20-60, with 47 boys this year.
Community service includes helping out at Bailey Lake’s annual School Fair in October. This year, the pack cleaned out all of the classrooms, sorted plastic and aluminum cans, and bagged the trash outside each of the rooms, gym, and cafeteria.
In November was Scouting For Food, collecting hundreds of pounds of canned food donated by the community for donation to Gleaners Food Bank.
Fund raisers include the annual Popcorn Drive in October, with profits going to pack awards, trips, and activities.
Last year, the boys had an overnight trip on the World War II submarine USS Silver Sides. The year before the overnighter was to the Ohio Zoo.
The weekend after school lets out in June is the Family Camp Out at Independence Oaks.
