Orion Art Center(OAC) is calling for the formation of Dragon Boat teams to compete in the wildly popular Dragon Boat races on Lake Orion during the Dragon on the Lake Festival.
The festival kicks off on Friday, August 26,with a lighted boat parade at dusk (on Lake Orion) and continues through Sunday, August 28.
According to OAC Director Reggie Harrison, the event is, ‘perfect for athletes and non-athletes alike and proves to be great summer fun for participants and spectators.?
The cost is $45 per team member or $945 per team of 21 members. Participants must be 14 or older and may form their own teams of up to 21 members or register individually to be placed on a team. Teams may seek sponsorship from an organization of their choice, if they choose. Fee includes one hour practice session on Saturday, use of Dragon Boat, life vests, paddles and entrance into the race. Participants need no prior training or experience. The OAC has contracted with Great White North, a professional dragon boat racing outfit out of Toronto to help run the race.
