Glitz Salons stylists cut, shaved and coiffed their way through hundreds of manes last month to help raise $20,000 for Children’s Leukemia Foundation (CLF) of Michigan. The day-long fundraiser also included special appearances by famous, make-believe princesses, superheroes a 5k run, silent auction, horse-drawn carriage rides and more.
Glitz Salons has organized and hosted the cut-a-thon event for 10 years, raising some $250,000 for CLF in addition to increasing awareness of the statewide agency that helps families cope with leukemia, lymphoma and related disorders by providing information, financial assistance and emotional support. About 100 Glitz employees volunteered for the event.
‘We look forward to this event all year, devising new and creative ways to engage more people and raise more funds for CLF,? said Cherie Clinton-Barnett, president and owner of Glitz Salons in Clarkston, Lake Orion, Orion Township and Rochester. ‘Our staff and clients are very invested in the event’s success, helping spread the word and build excitement.?
Clinton-Barnett was inspired to organize her first cut-a-thon after a teenage client was diagnosed with leukemia.
Plans are underway already for 2012, when the event will again take place at Canterbury Village in the fall.
