The Tackabury family of Clarkston had a little excitement during a trip up north on the Au Sable River, July 24.
“My family and I were on a camping trip, fishing on the river about 200-300 yards away from the plane when it crashed,” said Sharon Tackabury, who snapped photos as the plane splashed down. “The pilot walked away without a scratch.”
The float plane’s pilot, who lives on the lake, told the Iosco County News Herald he forgot to retract the landing gear when he took off.
The plane flipped upsidedown in the water, but the pilot was able to unbelt himself and open the door window to get out.
