Life Scout, Troop 128
On August 1, 11 scouts and 8 adults from St. Mary’s in the Hills Troop 128 in Lake Orion traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico for a 10 day hike through the mountains of Philmont Scout Ranch. There were two treks, each with a different itinerary.
Trek 1 hiked 72 miles and climbed two mountains and Trek 2 covered 57 miles and climbed one mountain. Both treks completed a 3-hour service project while on the trail.
All scouts completed their treks, which involved more than just a lot of hiking. They were able to do many unique activities such as spar pole climbing, repelling off a cliff, and trying their hands at blacksmithing, black-powder rifle shooting, and archaeology.
Troop 128 is looking forward to doing even more high adventure activities in the future!
