Twp. welcomes revenue increase

Brandon Twp.- In what seems to be very dark economic times, township officials recently received some bright news.
A state revenue sharing check that arrived last week for the township was $100,000 more than last year’s check.
Treasurer Terry Beltramo said the township received $947,360 in constitutional sales tax revenue sharing from the state a week ago, an increase of $106,366 over last year’s $840,944 check. He attributed the increased sales tax revenue sharing to increased sales for the auto companies.
‘I don’t think we’re going uphill yet, but it’s a bump,? said Beltramo, who wants to put as much of the money in the fund balance as possible. ‘This is very positive. Revenue sharing and property taxes are the township’s only revenue sources.?
He noted that property tax collection is down 4 to 5 percent from last year. Only 93 percent of summer taxes have been collected. Winter tax collection bills will be mailed to residents Nov. 30. Residents with escrow accounts will not receive a copy of their tax bill as a cost-saving measure.
