Volunteers install Oakland playground

On a sunny Saturday, May 3, over 40 volunteers, including many from Oak Arbor Church as well as a Canadian resident, participated in the installation of Bear Creek Nature Park’s new playground.
Once open, the custom-designed playground, created by Landscape Structures, will offer a variety of play options, including multiple slides, swings, rockers, a see saw and many climbing areas.
Oakland Township contracted with playground installer Michigan Recreational Construction to lead this “community built” playground installation. Volunteers started with a breakfast, compliments of AhMoore!, prior to unloading play components. Assembly continued with a lunch break, with food and drinks provided compliments of the Kroger Company.
The final phase of the day included anchoring the playground footings with cement, which was provided at a reduced cost by Dillman & Upton.
Bear Creek Nature Park, a 107-acre park located between Snell and Gunn Roads, is the site where Oakland Township is constructing its first recreation facilities. The playground is one of several new park additions, including a parking lot, boardwalks, observation decks, trails and a picnic shelter.
“This playground will provide a new facility for local families at minimal cost to taxpayers,” said Mindy Milos-Dale, Oakland Township Parks and Recreation Director.
Oakland Township was awarded a Michigan Natural Resource Trust Fund grant, which will pay for approximately half of the cost of all these new recreational facilities, including the play equipment.
