There may not have been a camera crew on-hand, but The Review was as some 75 people converged on Lake Orion Self Storage on Church Street on Jan. 19. They braved the bitter cold to bid on two unpaid storage units filled with potential treasures.
According to auctioneer Steven Cole of AuctionStreet.net, his company hosts 2-3 such auctions each week in northern Oakland, Lapeer and Genesse Counties. After peeking inside to see what somebody is willing to give up, bidders moved into position and the bids started flying. Somebody placed a winning bid of $900 for the contents of the storage unit. The new owner promptly put a new padlock on the door.
This was the first time the business held such a public auction, no doubt inspired by the popularity of the reality television show. Photo by G. Ouzounian
