Jackie Whitus of the Lady Dragons Power Lifting team does a squat lift during a Feb. 25 meet. The girls and boys teams both took second place at the event and will have the chance to lift again, this time on home turf, at the March 10 state meet. Boys Head Coach Jason Larsen said the team was happy with their 2011 results despite being a young team. He expects the team will make it to the top five in the state and believes his team is ‘hungry for the top spot.? Jojo Misiak, Head Coach for the girls, along with assistant coaches Holly Hensley and Mary Chayka-Crawford said this is the fourth year they’ve qualified for state playoffs. In 2009 they took tenth, in 2010 they placed fourth, 2011 saw them take third and they’re hoping for the top spot this year when they too wrestle on March 10 at LOHS. The teams? next meet is in Muskegan on March 3. The lifters are hoping to qualify a few more members at the meet before state finals are upon them. Photo submitted.
