The Michigan Stars tournament started with 48 teams and throughout two days it narrowed down to Clarkston and Plymouth in the championship game on Sunday.
The Lady Wolves from the varsity softball team finished in second place after their 5-4 loss to Plymouth, putting their record to 20-3.
“They got up on us but we battled back,” said head coach Don Peters. “It wasn’t quite enough but it was a great game. We were just on the other end of the score. The girls played great for game and battled to the championship game and in that game.”
The Lady Wolves beat five teams, Grosse Pointe North, 4-1, Farmington Hills Harrison, 3-0, Cardinal Mooney, 10-0, Troy Athens, 7-0, and Pinconning, 5-0.
Freshman Madeline Maday pitched the three shutouts against Harrison, Athens and Pinconning for a combination of 29 strikeouts.
For hitting junior Sydney Hasselbach hit three home runs for the weekend.
“She is staying on the ball and all of them were at important times,” added Peters. “It was pretty impressive.”
The girls also shut out Carman Ainsworth on their double header last Thursday, 10-0 and 14-0.
“We did what we were suppose to,” Peters said. “The girls hit the ball against them and played good defense and we shut them out.”
The Lady Wolves head to Farmington on Wednesday for a double header and Davison on Thursday, both beginning at 4:30 p.m.
“Davison is doing well,” said Peters. “We saw them play at Michigan Stars. Their coach was on our coaching staff so it is a fun rivalry.”
They head to the St. Clair Tournament on Saturday.
“It should be a very competitive week,” Peters added.
