Time is ticking down, but those still interested in running as a candidate for the Orion Township trustee board have until 4 p.m. on May 15 to file.
According to Orion Township Clerk Penny Shults only nine people have filed to run as candidates so far. Incumbent JoAnn Van Tassel and Chris Barnett will run for supervisor, incumbent Alice Young and Mark Thurber will run for Treasurer, incumbent Penny Shults for clerk and Donni Steele has filed for trustee along with incumbents Mike Flood Jr., Neal PorterSpecial Assessment -Ball antyne, Birch Grove Dr. and Birch Grove Ct.
and John Steimel who are all running for re-election.
‘I would think a lot more people will want to be considered because we had a lot of interest for trustee and supervisor when those positions were vacant last time,? said Shults.
She added when former Supervisor Matt Gibb resigned on May 31, 2011 to go work for Oakland County, they had nine candidates for supervisor. When trustee JoAnn Van Tassel was appointed the supervisor position, 13 candidates applied for vacant trustee seat.
‘I would imagine there to be as much interest as we had back then,? Shults said. ‘It seems there are a lot of people who want to serve in that way.?
