There is a new look in Ortonville ? for hair, that is. No look is too big or too small for the experienced technicians at Salon Techniques.
‘We can do any hairstyle brought to us,? owner and stylist Amy Graham said. ‘We are stylists for men and women and children, and our specialty is your comfort.?
Graham and her stylists, Shelli Hebert and Tracy Congdon, bring a combined 34 years styling experience.
‘If you want to just walk in and get a haircut, we would love to have you,? Graham said. ‘If you want the works, we can do it, we would love to be your salon.?
Salon Techniques is celebrating its first year in business in 2003, and Graham couldn’t be happier.
‘Being our first year in the community, we are learning what local people want from a salon,? she said. ‘Over the past year we have already grown, upgraded our color line and expanded the line of hair care products we carry.? Some of Salon Techniques top notch products include TIGI, Paul Mitchell, Redken and Alterna.
The friendly Ortonville atmosphere has been a breath of fresh air for Graham and her business.
‘I like this community because it is still small enough so most people know each other, and that is great for any business, especially a salon, where you rely on word of mouth to bring in your best customers.?
Still need more reasons to visit Salon Techniques? Three of them should be the smiling faces of Graham, Hebert and Congdon, who treat each customer like a friend.
‘I went into this line of work, because to me, it’s not a job,? Graham said. ‘You get to come to the salon everyday and talk to great people while you do their hair.
‘A big plus is also that it feels great to make other people feel good,? she said with a smile.

Salon Techniques
Salon Techniques has been remodeled this year. Deep brown and beige paint makes for a warm, welcoming environment for clients, as they have their hair cut, styled, colored, highlighted or any other service they may choose to have done.
But beyond the remodeling, what makes the salon truly special and even more welcoming are the people within. A visit to Salon Techniques in Ortonville is more than a beautification process.
‘It’s a social event,? said owner Amy Potvin. ‘We’re outgoing and we like to have fun. Clients are like family. We want everyone to have a great experience here.?
The salon’s four employees accommodate all who come through the door at 950 S. Ortonville Road, Suite 3. Men, women and children can receive hair services.
‘It’s such a family-oriented community,? said stylist Kim Hill. ‘We can really service everyone.?
Potvin, Hill and the salon’s other two employees-Shelli Hebert and Tracy Wilcox, use Matrix products for hair coloring, their most requested service. Highlighting and perms are also popular. They have expanded the Matrix line to meet the needs of everyone. The salon also offers facial waxing.
The benefits to all the services offered are plentiful at Salon Techniques, which celebrates its third anniversary in June. Potvin says clients look and feel better and their confidence level rises. The staff uses 40 years of combined experience dealing with all different types of hair to get the best result for individuals at reasonable prices.
‘Our long-term goal is just to make everyone we can look and feel great and if we continue to do so we’ll be here for a long time.?
