Deputies were dispatched to Capaldi Circle for four juveniles suspected of breaking into vehicles on Aug. 17.
Upon arrival, the deputies observed two teens walking east on Maybee. The males fit the description of larceny from automobile suspects reported earlier in the day. The deputies stopped their vehicle to speak with the two, but they fled into a nearby swamp. Deputies ordered the two to stop and they both were apprehended without further incident.
While searching the teens, weapons, property and more were found on their person and matched property reported stolen earlier. While searching the two, one boy’s father stopped on his way to work after recognizing his son.
While waiting for another detective to arrive, the substation received a call from a woman claiming her boyfriend’s prescription medication was taken from his vehicle the previous night. One of the items recovered from the suspects was a bottle with the boyfriend’s name on it.
Deputies continued a search of the area and were able to to track down additional suspects that were also taken into custody. They admitted to being behind the recent rash of larcenies from automobiles and further detectives were able to recover numerous amounts of stolen property.
‘These individuals all confessed to committing these crimes over the last six to seven weeks,? said Substation Commander Dan Toth. ‘They estimate they entered around 100 vehicles during that time. They also admitted to selling the property on Craigslist and at flea markets. We were able to return the property that was recovered on (Aug. 17.)?
One male, who was 18-years-old, was lodged in Oakland County Jail while the other three, 16-years-old, 15-years-old and 14-years-old were released to their parents for later return to Juvenile Probate Court.
