Planning Commission OKs sign ordinance

Downtown Clarkston may be lit up soon. After thorough discussion at a public hearing, Sept. 5, the City’s Planning Commission prepared language for a revision of Zoning Ordinance No. 129.
The ordinance change would allow all downtown retailers to hang one red, internally illuminated ‘Open? sign at each public entry of their shops.
The township attorney will check if they can restrict signs to just say ‘open,? or if it violates Freedom of Speech. The revised ordinance will go before the City Council for review.
