Next year’s seniors might not be happy with the parking lot rule change at Lake Orion High School.
In the past senior students were given first priority in purchasing a parking pass for an assigned space. Second priority was given to juniors through a lottery process after school began.
This fall individual passes will not be assigned and parking will be in an open format. According to LOHS Principal Todd Dunckley, students will park on a first come-first serve basis. The parking fee stays the same — $55.
Dunckley said the change was made because of less personnel at the high school and because the old way was hard to police.
He doesn’t expect there to be any problems. In the past, there’s always been enough spaces available to park due to student absences.
In other school news, LO School Superintendent Dr. Craig Younkman said he’s been informed by the Michigan Department of Transportation that a traffic light will be installed at Stadium Drive before school starts next fall.
Last year school board members agreed to contribute money to the construction of a safety path on Clarkston Road, between Baldwin and Joslyn, on the Orion Oaks Park side. According to Younkman, construction of the path will began soon.
