Library kids vote for books

Last week we all went to our election booths to take part in the quadrennial democratic event known as the general election.
Kids in Orion Township had the same opportunity at the Orion Township Public Library when they voted in the inaugural ‘Vote for a Book? campaign.
Librarians nominated five books in the Picture book, Chapter book, and Middle School book categories. Participating children mimicked the adults by campaigning with video and poster advertisements before voting.
Ballots have now been tallied, with Best Picture Book award going to Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems. Best Chapter book went to Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan took home the top prize in Best Middle School Book.
According to Debra Refior, Youth Services Department Head, ‘There were a total of 455 votes and Diary of a Wimpy Kid got the most votes overall. The library will make voting a yearly tradition to encourage young people to vote.?
Stop by the library at 825 Joslyn Road or visit them online at orionlibrary.org to see full election results.
