Since 2010 the Lake Orion Jubilee has been held at Canterbury Village.
Previously, the Jubilee was held in downtown Lake Orion.
Rumors to come back have morphed into a survey for downtown businesses.
The Lake Orion’s Lions Club approached the Village of Lake Orion, in a meeting conducted Wednesday, November 20, to explore the idea of relocating the Jubilee to the downtown. The last time it was held downtown was in 2009.
The event would not be held in conjunction with the Lake Orion fireworks, which would still be held on or around July 4.
Jubilee set-up is proposed for Wednesday, June 18, 2014, with the carnival proposed for Thursday, June 19 to Sunday June 22 on Broadway St.
Before the village moves forward with any decision a survey is being conducted by downtown businesses owners.
The DDA organized a set of questions for business owners to consider, including whether the Jubilee positively or negatively affected their business before 2009. The business owners were also asked if they are in favor of the Jubilee relocating downtown and they were given an opportunity to list comments or suggestions.
‘People have been asking us to bring it back for years, so we thought let’s see if it would work,? said Joe Hildebrand, chairman of the Jubilee and president of the Lion’s Club. ‘There’s nothing definite about it. We have to run it through the village people and business community to see what they want to do,? he said.
The Jubilee was relocated to Canterbury Village in 2010 after the Lake Orion streetscape project started.
After considering local business owners comments, along with other citizens?, the Lake Orion Village Council will make the decision.
