The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department charged a man with disorderly conduct and another man with careless driving after they were involved in a one-vehicle accident on Lapeer Road after playing with a firework.
According to an OCSD report, a 16-year-old Harrison Township man was driving his 1998 Volvo southbound on Lapeer Road near Waldon Road on July 8, when a rear seat passenger in his vehicle, a 17-year-old Warren man, handed him a lit firework.
The Warren man said he gave the driver the firework at the man’s request. The firework went off in the man’s hand, causing him to drive his car off the road, damaging the vehicle.
The Orion Township Fire Department responded to the scene, and the Harrison Township man was transported to POH via ambulance for treatment to burns on his hands caused by the firework explosion.
He was cited by the OCSD for careless driving, while the Warren man received a citation for being a disorderly person, and was then released.
