Girl’s varsity softball advances to regionals

The girl’s varsity softball team obtained the state district championship by defeating Waterford Mott on Sunday.
The girls conquered Waterford Kettering by a score of 12-1, Clarkston by a score of 7-5, followed by the last game in the district series, Mott, by a score of 8-1.
The Dragons unleashed their attack against Mott after the fourth inning with Alex Carpenter’s three doubles, Kayla Knoblock’s home run and Megan Hall’s home run and double.
This is the second year in a row that the team softball has received the OAA Red Title and went on to the district crown. They were 9-1 in league play.
‘Districts are the big hurdle,? Head Coach Joe Woityra said. ‘Now we have five games left and we need to take each game one at a time. Anything could happen now during the one game elimination. You just hope to be at your best on game day.?
So far, the girl’s season set at 29-8. Their win against Mott pushes LO into the Regional Finals, where they will play Troy on Saturday, June 6th at noon in Hartland.
The girls previously beat Troy to win the OAA Red Title.
‘The girls have worked extremely hard to get where they are. There are five coaches and they all worked really hard. They spend a lot of time away from their families to make the girls better and help them achieve their goals,? Woityra said. ‘Everyone is working together to see how far we can go.?
