Historians label the 20th century the “American century.” But for Theresa Seaman, the century was her life.
The Metamora resident turned 100 years old on July 24, but insisted she doesn’t feel any different.
“I feel about the same,” Seaman said. “I feel real good.”
Seaman celebrated her 100th birthday with a big bash thrown by her friends at the Oxford Senior Center on Friday. She’s been coming to the center (located on the first floor of the Oxford Veterans Memorial Civic Center) for fun and fellowship for the past 30 years.
When asked what’s the secret to living a full century, Seaman replied, “Eating right and bumming.”
By “bumming,” Seaman said she meant, “Going to casinos, playing bingo and going to parties. I don’t miss anything. I’m very active.”
“No matter what I do, I really enjoy it. You’ve gotta be happy in whatever you do,” she added. “I don’t play bingo for the money. I do it to have fun.”
After living 100 years, Seaman, a member of Immanuel Congregational Church in Oxford, said she has no regrets. “I’m very content,” she said. “I’ve had a very good life.”
Originally born in Detroit, Seaman spent most of her life there, before later moving to Leonard and finally Metamora, where she’s lived for about 20 years.
She was married to her late husband Alfred for 75 years and raised two daughters. From those two daughters, sprang six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
