Letter to Editor: Follow the money

In the past I had worked with someone who’s favorite saying was ‘whenever something doesn’t make sense see who benefits.?
In other words, follow the money.
Over the last couple of years following the saga of the relationship between Oxford Schools and the Chinese all that kept coming to mind was who benefits?
I couldn’t see how any of the students at Oxford or the parents who have to pay for this experiment benefited as I don’t know of any who are studying in China or who have learned enough to pursue a career after high school with the knowledge that they have acquired.
So in the back of my mind was that someone had to have been getting paid off to push this forward.
Now it’s public knowledge that our superintendent of schools was the one who benefited.
I guess the next question should be is it possible that one individual could push a school district this far down a path that still doesn’t make any sense?
Or are there others who were on the school board or employees of the district who are working and being compensated with the best interest of someone other than the people who hired them or voted them into office.
Until this question can be answered, it doesn’t seem rational to continue this.
The school board and the administration are here to serve the needs of Oxford students and to implement the future needs of the residents of the local school district.
Until this school district can provide an education that cannot be made better, this is where the focus should be, not on providing an additional source of income as consultants or lobbyists for people who are putting personal benefit over the job that they were hired for.
