Football players earn all-league honors, school awards

Seven Oxford football players were named to the Oakland Activities Association All-League First Team.
Those players were Glacier Wallington, Will Horne, Matt Harris, Adam Schlicht, Scott Stubenrauch, John Patrick and Austin Hunsucker.
‘Seven kids is pretty doggone good,? said Head Coach Bud Rowley. ‘We aren’t the biggest school and our kids aren’t the biggest, but I’ll tell you what, our kids are tough and they can play football.?
Horne and Hunsuker were also OAA Scholar Athletes, along with Drake Barry, Devon Davenport, Jared Dymond, Travis Moore, John Hassenzahl, Ethan Kerin, Brenden Lewis, Anson Rowley, Andrew Snable, Blake Stepek and Louie Urban.
The football team awards banquet was held Nov. 10. At that banquet, Wallington and Stubenrauch were awarded MVP Offense while MVP Defense went to Patrick. Noah Groves received the Special Teams Award, Seth Ratkowiak, MIP Offense and Jordan Henry and Barry got MIP Defense.
Adam Schlicht was given the Mike Allen Award, which is for receivers and Wallington took home the Jeff Craft Award for defensive back position. Meanwhile, Harris and Horne got the Joe Ratkowiak Linebacker Award and Matt Marney earned the Doug Mertens Award on the D-Line. Finally, Hunsucker was given the Coach’s Award and John Hassenzahl received the Wildcat Award.
‘I thought the seniors led us very well in the off-season,? Rowley said. ‘We had a great off-season.?
The Wildcats ended their regular season 6-3, which Rowley considered a ‘solid season,? before taking a hard loss to the Clarkston Wolves in the first round of playoffs.
‘Overall, we had very, very solid 2014 football season and the seniors can go on to their other sports or on to their senior year and feel good about themselves,? Rowley added. ‘The young guys learned some very good lessons from the senior class and we’re wishing all the seniors good luck. The young guys (who) are coming in (are) raring to go (next year).?
