A group of Clarkston Cadette Girl Scouts have been busy working on their Silver Award with a project called Help Carry the Load.
They are doing just that by sewing sleeping bag carrying cases to be given to area homeless people. The scouts are partnering with community groups and individuals to create, distribute, and fund materials for the bags.
They have sewn several bags on their own, and helped others to sew them as part of Clarkston’s Community Impact Day. The bags were distributed, along with sleeping bags and other items, in conjunction with Clarkston United Methodist Church’s annual sleeping bag drive in Flint on Nov. 15.
They are currently working on a website to provide instructions and additional project information. Their hope is any community member who enjoys sewing can create more bags to help with next year’s rive.
