Whoever thought that lions could race?
They can if they are part of the Lake Orion Lions Club.
The Lions are planning to hold Lion Races in what they hope will be an annual event to raise money for their local charities.
The racing will commence on Saturday, March 28 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1400 Orion Rd. The cost is $15 and includes dinner. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is at 6 p.m. Then it’s off to the races beginning at 7 p.m.
Large wooden lion silhouettes, which will be suitably decorated by sponsoring local businesses, will ‘race? down a track, which is actually some tables set to resemble a lion race track.
Six lions will race at once and there will be numerous heats that are expected to generate some friendly betting to raise money.
A roll of a dice will determine how many spaces a lion will move. Whichever beast reaches the finish line will win.
There will be opportunities to place $2 minimum bets placed on your favorite lion and the odds will be determined by betting for each race. The Lake Orion Review’s lion will most certainly be a favorite.
There will be door prizes, 50/50 drawings each hour, $5 beer or wine cup is available and there will be a cash bar.
