Over the past several months Lake Orion High School art students have welded jewelry, painted small-scale murals and sculpted fine pots. They have designed, photographed, collaged and digitized creating fantastic computer art.
Now they want to show it off to the community on Wednesday, March 18.
Art students will showcase their expressions in a two hour event beginning in the high school auditorium lobby with a department wide show starting at 6 p.m. Then guests are invited onstage for a 7 p.m. live auction in the auditorium where the gavel has the final say for the future of a variety of original pieces.
Art pieces from every class will be showcased in both the art show and auction, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, jewelry, and computer designs.
The art show especially highlights Advanced Placement (AP) artwork from students who opt for the more intensive art program of Lake Orion. Each AP art student has their own section to display their work, and will be present on scene to answer questions and offer sales.
After browsing the art show, people interested in the auction are invited on stage to peruse the 100 auction items, all original art work donated from National Art Honor Society students and other art students who want to contribute. All proceeds from the auction fund the after school art club, which meets every Thursday for a fun project or field trip.
Department Chair for the Fine Arts and Performing Arts, Melissa Wilson, said the art show as a great experience for her students.
‘It’s really good for the students, and it’s also a nice way for other students to see what kinds of work we produce in our art classes,? she said.
From a business perspective, it’s also a cheap way to buy original artwork while supporting artistic Dragons.
‘Where else can you get original work? We have a great program here, and it’s quality work.?
She encourages local businesses to attend’and purchase original pieces for their office, and families, friends and neighbors to join in the fun event.
‘Rings, tiles, things that that are a little more sculptural, paintings’everything that we offer here, it’s pretty interesting to see it displayed all in one location for everyone to see,? LOHS Art Teacher Sam Rimi said. ‘And it all goes back to the students and various activities we do.?
