I read the Don Rush Royal Oak column and the responses.
Two or three years ago there was a news clip on TV or maybe I read it in a paper, I can not remember which.
It was about Royal Oak giving out parking tickets to everyone that was parked wrong during the Dream Cruise.
I would have thought that they would have been more understanding to people from out of town and even from out of state during that week of the Dream Cruise.
Parking is hard to find and there are thousands and thousands more people.
It must have brought in a lot more money to the businesses. But some of those people got tickets. From that time on, I did not want to go to Royal Oak.
Please do not think I want my comments to be directed at the Police who were doing as they were instructed and have my respect no matter which town they work in. Also not directed at the people of Royal Oak.
My daughter lives in Royal Oak and visit her and her family regulary so I know there are good people there just like in Oxford. Maybe those people who made those really nasty remarks to you should rethink them and become one of those good people in Royal Oak.
But my comments are directed at those people who made the decision to give those tickets during the Dream Cruise.
You might have wanted to give it more thought in you planning for that week.
In some of the responses. it said that some of the garages offer the first two hours free, you could have gone to some store to get change, you got the ticket because you did not keep track of time, and that some of the meters have card type meters. Unless you live there you may no know about the first two hours free or where those locations are at.
I would not like to leave my car and walk to a store to get change when I could get ticketed in the time I was gone. I also would not like to get up from dinner or other event to put money in a meter.
Card type meters ….I do no even know what they are or where they would be at.
I know how you feel, Don, and that your not paying when it was only $10 had everything to do with the principle of it.
I also know that in time that it will be a part of our history and forgotten.
