With the success of last year’s production of ‘Beauty and the Beast,? Oxford High School has a lot riding on its upcoming spring musical.
Since the selection of ‘The Wizard of Oz? was made, some have been uncertain if this play will bring in the same amount of revenue and success.
But Director Christopher Card has lots of confidence in the production.
‘We are not just setting about to re-create the standard of the past; we are planning on offering an all new experience. The high production value will be certain to exceed audience expectations,? Card said.
A record number of over 130 students are involved in the production this year, and some of been working since last summer to continue to raise the standard for OHS musicals.
‘The production value of ‘The Wizard of Oz? will likely surpass that of previous years, due to the expansiveness of sets, amount of custom costumes, inclusion of dance conservatory, and use of special effects and flying actors across the stage,? Card said.
‘We have the largest orchestra we have ever had, along with the largest cast we have ever had. The longstanding tradition of excellence in OHS musicals will definitely continue with this production of ‘The Wizard of Oz.??
All of the students involved in the play, onstage and off, have been extremely busy in preparation for the two weekends ‘The Wizard of Oz? will be performed.
‘Practices have been very busy, yet fun. It’s hard to make time for everything else, but it is well worth it in the end, especially when you know you have a good show to perform,? OHS said senior Gabby Barber.
Barber is playing the role of Glinda.
‘The Wizard of Oz? will take the stage at Oxford High School’s Performing Arts Center from March 18-21, and again the following week, March 26-28. Tickets are available at the box office, Monday through Thursday (4 p.m.-7 p.m.) outside of the auditorium, or in advance at www.oxfordmusical.com
