Sibling rivalry took on a whole new meaning in Leonard last week once knives and police entered the picture.
Now, two brothers are potentially facing criminal charges.
‘It’s a weird case,? said Oakland County Sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Brudvig. ‘It’s different.?
Two brothers, a 36-year-old Oxford man and a 34-year-old Addison man, got into fight April 17 at their mother’s home in the 100 block of E. Elmwood St., according to the sergeant.
Brudvig said the Oxford brother was upset the Addison brother was staying with their mother and wanted him to leave.
A verbal argument reportedly turned into a physical altercation. During the fight, the Addison brother picked up a knife, according to Brudvig, at which point the Oxford brother attempted to disarm him.
The Oxford brother was unsuccessful, but Brudvig said the Addison brother claims he ‘threw (the knife) down? and did not use it against his brother or threaten him with it.
The mother drove the Oxford brother back to his home. Brudvig said the Oxford brother later reported to the sheriff’s office he had been in a fight with his brother at their mother’s home.
The Oxford brother was transported to the hospital with what Brudvig described as a ‘non-life-threatening? cut to his abdomen. Further investigation revealed the Oxford brother cut himself with the intention of getting his sibling ‘in trouble? with their mother, Brudvig said.
A knife was recovered from the Oxford brother’s home with what’s believed to be blood and tissue on it. ‘It was pretty obvious that the knife at the house was the one he used,? the sergeant said. ‘It’s secure in evidence. We have both knives.?
No one has been arrested. The case is now in the hands of the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, which is determining whether or not charges will be sought against either or both of the brothers.
Brudvig said neither brother wants to pursue charges, but they could still be charged with domestic violence.
