Flocks of pink flamingos have been appearing in Clarkston area front lawns lately. The teenagers responsible have come forward ? it was all to raise money for a mission trip to Costa Rica.
‘It was a fund raising tactic,? said Jake Giola, member of the Clarkston United Methodist Church international mission trip for high school graduating seniors.
In exchange for a donation, the students would surreptitiously set up the plastic birds in a spot of the donor’s choosing.
‘A lot of people had us flock someone else,? Giola said.
The group “flocked” about 100 places, including Bailey Lake Elementary School, raising more than half what was needed for the trip.
The students? trip to the Central American nation, June 14-20, is with the Rice and Beans Ministries.’They’ll help with building projects, feed the hungry, pray with the people, provide children with uniforms for school, and put on day camp Bible Schools.
