If you like classic cars and cupcakes, then you’re not going to want to miss the 2015 ‘Classic Car and Cupcake Challenge? on Sept. 19 in the parking lot of the Addison Twp. Public Library, located at 1400 Rochester Rd.
‘We were thrilled with the participation of last year’s event! We had 40 cars, motorcycles and trucks enter last year,? said Oxford Twp Public Library Director Jaema Berman said. ‘This is a totally free event for the community with a DJ spinning the oldies and a chance to see some amazing vintage cars in our parking lot. We hope to have an antique fire engine and a marine hovercraft this year.?
Berman said the event last year gave them more of a chance to meet residents from the Leonard and Lakeville areas.
‘It gave us a chance to show off here what we have to offer the community,? she said. ‘We want to raise awareness (about) the library services that we have, raise our visibility in the community and invite people to use our services.?
The library has so many resources including books and DVDs for adults and children, EBooks for Nooks, Kindles and iPads, downloadable magazines from Zinio
‘There are over 250 magazines you can download from Zinio that you can order through the Addison Township Public Library website for free which is great,? she said. ‘We want to let people know we are providing some really great things.?
Part of improving their services said Berman has been their switch to contract with AT&T, who installed a new high speed, fiber optic line for internet.
‘So our speeds went from like 5 megahertz to 20, so the uploads and downloads speeds are crazy good now,? she added. ‘We feel like we have a real superior service we offer the community.?
She noted that they were able to get the fiber optic lines due to the $2,000 contribution of Leonard resident Reuben Flat.
‘Also people will notice that we support the Arts here, we do a ‘Artist of the Month? and we currently have a show here by Liz Sulivan who is a local artist,? explained Berman. ‘Really beautiful and very inspiring and thought-provoking found art objects. That will be up until the end of August and we’re looking for others who would like to participate in more of this community expression of art and our art spirit here.?
Like last year, Berman said the event will include several door prizes.
‘I felt like we had a lot of community support (last year) and we’re looking forward to this year having more fun here,? she said. ‘If that’s even possible, because there were just a lot of good vibrations here at the library and it was really exciting.?
