Farewell after 38 years

A fond farewell was presented to Linda Richardson, a 38-year township employee. Richardson began her longtime career as a township clerk, and retired this month after serving 13 years as the Independence Township DPW director.
Richardson’s last day in the office was Aug. 12. Trustees presented Richardson a proclamation of appreciation for her service at their Aug. 11 meeting.
During her years of service, Richardson was active in many organizations. In 1995, she became the first female to serve as Vice President of Southern Michigan Water & Sewer Association.
She was also recognized in 2014 by receiving the Michigan Rural Water Association’s Woman of the Year award.
“This proclamation recognizes Linda and her 38 years of commitment to not only Independence Township and the DPW Department, but also her loyalty and contribution to the community,” said township Supervisor Pat Kittle.
Since April, Richardson has worked closely with David Mckee, former water and sewer superintendent of Waterford Township. Mckee officially started the job on Monday, April 13.
