It has always been the Lake Orion Education Foundation’s (LOEF) goal to help fund educational excellence in the classrooms of Lake Orion’s schools, but their next idea takes funding to a different level.
Anyone going to, or planning on attending college, should pay attention.
Each entrant into the $50,000 ‘Destination: Dragon Dreams? LOEF’s Scholarship Raffle has a chance to win $25,000 towards their, or their recipient’s, college tuition.
And Lake Orion’s classrooms get a little boost too.
The other $25,000 will be pooled into the next LOEF grant cycle program where Lake Orion teachers can apply for funding to help offset classroom expenses.
To LOEF President Allan Brunmeier, the new fundraising opportunity is a win-win.
‘There is a lot of interest from people in the district as well as business owners and parents who want to help the LOEF but don’t have the time to participate in the golf outing or dinner dance. So this is a win-win for everybody,? he said. ‘Sell the tickets, get it done, and give the money to the winners.?
Brunmeier and the LOEF board created the tuition scholarship as a third option to two already in place.
The annual LOEF Golf Outing is one way to help out Lake Orion’s teachers and students, this year’s outing took place on June 28, along with the annual Evening for Education Dinner Dance every fall.
The 10th’Annual Evening for Education Dinner Dance is’Saturday, November 21’at the Indianwood Golf and Country Club, and is also the evening the lucky grand prize winner for the $25,000 scholarship will be drawn.
For the lucky grand prize winner, that’s $25,000 that can be spent on books, tuition, housing, etc. (based on approval of the IRS) to help ease the financial stresses attached to pursuing a higher education, all while helping the Lake Orion district’s teachers and students back home.
If, however, the grand prize winner does not wish to pursue the tax-exempt scholarship through the LOEF, they can choose the cash prize option. For the cash prize option, the winner will receive a check within 30 days of the drawing after federal and state taxes are withheld, and may do as they wish .
Tickets cost $50 apiece, and there is no limit on the number of tickets sold to one person, however, purchasers must be 18 years of age and older. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold.
Tickets are available for purchase online through the LOEF at’http://www.lakeorion.k12.mi.us/Content/loef/.
