Waterford Montessori Academy students walked 4,687 laps, 670 miles, around their playground during recess for a week in October to help a parent in need.
The school Parent Volunteer Group’s walk-a-thon helped the family of Danielle McLean of Clarkston, who is battling complications from Lyme disease and an auto-immune disorder.
The conditions have limited her ability to eat and move around.
Nearly every child walked, and most walked all five days for their entire recess period, raising more than $1,000 for Danielle, her husband Jacob McLean, and their children Noah and Jonas McLean.
Waterford Montessori Academy, a public school academy in its third year of operation at 4860 Midland Avenue, Waterford, has 225 PreK – 5th grade students.
