U.S. Rep. Mike Bishop recognized Pine Knob Elementary School during an address to the speaker on the floor of the United States House of Representatives on Oct. 23.
Bishop spoke about PKE’s Blue Ribbon Award, coveted award presented to outstanding schools since 1982.
Jodi Yeloushan, principal of PKE for the past six years, was notified the school received the award in late September. She will travel to Washington D.C. in November to accept the award of behalf of the school.
PKE is among 7,600 schools in total to ever receive the award and one of about 350 to receive the award this year.
“I rise today to share the achievements of a school in my district PKE in Clarkston. For generations American’s have held on to the long standing belief that their children’s future should be better than their own,” Rogers said.
“The key to a brighter future starts with the best education possible. PKE school embraces that vision by setting their students on a path to success early on in the educational experience.
Teachers and faculty are focused on emphasizing personal growth in addition to aceing in numerous subject areas. they encourage students to think outside the box and be kind to one another all along through the process.
Bishop said PKE’s leadership reaches way beyond school grounds.
“Their mentorship goes beyond the classroom where teachers assist with a variety of clubs and activities their students participate in after school in addition to student council or the broadcast news, kids can join a computer coding club where they can learn to write programs a popular choice among students today and obviously a highly sought after skill in todays workforce.”
PKE is a school that loves learning, Bishop said.
“Above all these students love learning,” he said. “The results are in the 96 percent attendance rate their school has held for years.”
Bishop said he was proud to share the news that PKE, a school in his district, received a Blue Ribbon Award, a high symbol of excellence.
Bishop represents Michigan’s 8th congressional district, which includes several counties and communities, including Clarkston.
