Four young people accused of a Nov. 17 robbery that ended with the stabbing of a 58-year-old Oakland Township man right outside his home are in custody.
Three of the suspects are Oxford Township residents.
Colin Feeney, 20, of Oxford, and Michael Latimer, 20, of Pontiac, were each arraigned on one count of assault with intent to murder and one count of armed robbery before Judge Lisa Asadoorian in Rochester Hills 52-3 District Court Nov. 20.
Both men were denied bond and continue to be lodged in the Oakland County Jail.
Probable cause hearings and preliminary examinations for both suspects have been scheduled for 8: 30 a.m. Dec. 3 and 8:30 a.m. Dec. 10, respectively.
According to Oakland County Sheriff’s Lt. Anthony Spencer, commander of the Oakland Twp. substation, Feeney was previously convicted of two marijuana possession charges in 2013 and 2014, while Latimer was convicted of multiple traffic-related offenses.
Two female juveniles from Oxford, ages 13 and 16, were charged with the same crimes as Feeney and Latimer. The 13-year-old was charged as a juvenile, while the 16-year-old has been designated as an adult.
The teens are sisters. The 13-year-old is homeschooled, while the 16-year-old attends Lake Orion High School.
Hearings for the teens were held before Referee Lisa Harris Nov. 20. Both were denied bond and continue to be lodged at Children’s Village in Pontiac.
Spencer said the 16-year-old ‘is currently on probation for an alcohol-related offense.?
Arraignment of the 13-year-old was adjourned and another hearing has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 1 before Harris at Children’s Village.
A designation hearing for the 16-year-old has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 30 before Family Division Judge Lisa Langton. This proceeding will determine whether the teen will be tried as an adult or a juvenile.
The alleged crimes occurred in the 100 block of Lyndon Circle inside the Woodlands Estates mobile home park, located at 1441 W. Romeo Rd., directly across from Addison Oaks County Park.
According to the sheriff’s office, the Oakland Township man was leaving for work at about 4:30 a.m. when he observed the four suspects in the process of robbing his vehicle.
He confronted them, a fight broke out and the man was stabbed approximately 12 times in the stomach and back with a screwdriver, according to investigators.
The screwdriver was recovered and is being processed as evidence. Spencer said it appears the tool had been stolen from another vehicle.
‘We believe they broke into several cars (that night),? the lieutenant explained. ‘We haven’t charged them with that yet . . . We believe they were in other areas as well. They were on a little crime spree, I would say.?
The suspects allegedly fled the scene in a four-door Pontiac Grand Prix, while the victim was transported to McLaren Oakland hospital in Pontiac for treatment.
‘It appears he had a punctured lung,? Spencer said. ‘He (has since been) released and he’s doing fine.?
All four suspects were arrested by the sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Team later that same day.
‘Latimer and the two girls were arrested at his residence in Pontiac. They were all together,? Spencer said. ?(Feeney) was arrested at his job in Orion.?
Surveillance video from the Valero gas station at the corner of 32 Mile and Rochester roads combined with assistance from the public led to the suspects? identification and capture, according to the lieutenant.
‘We put that video out (through the media) and we got a ton of tips on it,? Spencer said. ‘Even when we had them in custody, people were still (calling the sheriff’s office).?
