The Oxford Fire Department responded on August 31 to a minor grass fire on Dunlap Rd. near Granger Rd.
“This was a very minor fire,” said Fire Chief Jack Leroy. “I have no idea what caused it.”
The fire occurred around 2:40 p.m. along the side of the road in a pathway that leads into an open field. Anything from a cigarette to weeds touching the underside of a passing vehicle could have started the small blaze.
Leroy said the burn area was maybe 10 foot around total and did not spread. Firefighters took only a few minutes and very little water to put out the fire.
“It’s not unusual to get these kinds of fires when the weather dries out – in the fall or when there’s been little rain,” said Leroy. “They are more common in spring.”
