Lake Orion leaps into a new year

Lake Orion’s finest athletes and their neighbors made it out January 1 for the 16th annual New Years Resolution Run hosted by the Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority (DDA). The 5k run prompted 325 movers and shakers to rise early and wind through downtown Lake Orion to start the year off right. In first place for the female overall runners division was Tammy Nowik of Clarkston, with a time of 18:55.9. First place runner of the men’s overall division was Matt Fetch of Warren with a time of 16:48.1. Other notable winners include the females 10-14 age group winner Sophie Novak of Lake Orion in 22:20.8, females 20-29 division winner Jennifer Blindert of Lake Orion in 19:15.6, and female 40-49 division winner Kendy Kutchek of Lake Orion in 19:00.4. Notable winners in the mens? divisions include Wyatt Smith of Lake Orion, with a time of 18:43.6 for the nine-and-under division, males 10-14 winner Ben Ulrich of Lake Orion in 23:22.3, males 50-59 division winner Volker Plehn of Lake Orion in 18:59.6, and Lake Orion’s Stan Ford for the 60-69 division in 23:51.1.
