Village Manager Darwin McClary notified council Monday evening that there had been a clerical error in the collection of the 2015 general operating tax levy. Village residents paid an excess of 0.1511 mills for 2015.
A homeowner with a home worth $150,000 paid $11.33 in excess taxes.
The village is consulting with Oakland County Equalization and the village attorney to determine the best method of refunding property owners. In past events, the county has recommended reducing the next year’s tax levy for communities with similar errors. It’s either that, or refunding the money in the current year. ‘M. Peters
