Village postpones water/sewer increases

The Lake Orion Village Council postponed increasing water and sewer rates for the third time at the council meeting Monday night. According to their agenda packet, council members denied administration’s proposal to increase water and sewer rates 3 percent to begin July 1, and each subsequent year thereafter until 2019. Current water rates are $2.60 per unit, and sewer rates are $2.10. Council requested more detailed data, including information on where capital improvements are needed in the water system. Data will be available at the end of June per an engineering water study that will be completed, and the fall, when a sewer study will have been completed. Village Manager Darwin McClary will present updated information and options for council at the next council meeting February 8, including a possible one-year rate increase.
