Oxford Varsity Wrestling participated in the Lake Fenton team duals on Saturday, January 23 and brought home another third place finish out of six schools.
Their 3-2 showing brought their overall season record to 15-6. The day got off to a rocky start with a 48-12 loss against Hartland. Round two brought a 33-31 victory against Marysville, coming down to the outcome of the last match, when Junior Garrett Tyrrell defeated his opponent by a 9-2 decision.
The Wildcats faced off against Lake Fenton in Round three and were defeated 39-26. Rounds four and five went in the Wildcats favor with victories over Dakota 42-20 and Tecumseh 45-25, respectively.
Two Oxford wrestlers were undefeated on Saturday (5-0): Senior Captain Wyatt Harden had three victories by forfeit and two by fall while Junior Byron Schlickenmeyer had one victory by fall and one victory by major decision and three by decision.
Three grapplers had solid 4-1 showings: Senior Captain Alex Hrisopoulos had two Pins, one Technical Fall, and one major decision; Senior Ethan Kerin had three decisions and one fall, his first of the season; and Sophomore Sergio Borg finished the day with two falls and two decisions.
