Express Weight Loss and Wellness Clinic and Neiman’s Family Market are working together to help keep Clarkston Healthy.
Terri Murphy, owner of the clinic, led a tour full of tips for shoppers at the Dixie Highway supermarket, Feb. 10.
‘We are offering totally free nutritionally informative grocery store tours to help people understand how to shop with their health in mind,? Murphy said. ‘We are in partnership with Neiman’s Market and are doing this as a service to our community.?
Education is the cornerstone of good nutrition, she said.
‘Most often, people learn best through a visual, on site approach,? she said.
They discussed nutrition facts on food labels, fruits and vegetables most susceptible to pesticide residue, the meaning of ‘enriched,? recognizing other names for sugar, whether Greek yogurt is better than low fat options, difference between whole wheat and wheat, and the nutritional content of canned fruits and vegetables versus fresh.
‘As many love their late night snacks, knowing the good, the bad, and the ugly can reduce adverse waistline affects,? she said. ‘Yes, you may still slip a bag of chips in your cart, but knowing the difference between baked, vegetable and regular chips may cause you to think twice, or at least choose a snack-size bag. ?
