The Goodrich boys golf squad gained some valuable experience at home and on the other side of the state earlier this month.
The Martians cruised to a 160-182 win in a Sept. 15 meet at Atlas Valley Country Club. Four Goodrich players each shot a round of 40: senior Phil Holloway and juniors Ben Richards, Charlie Richards and Jared Swanson.
On Sept. 13, Goodrich traveled to Marywood Golf Course in Battle Creek for the Owen Illinois Open, hosted by Charlotte High School. The Martians shot a team score of 341, placing them 14th out of 21 teams at the invitational.
Lansing Catholic Central won the event with a score of 314, while Grand Ledge finished second (317) and North Muskegon third (318).
For the Martians, Holloway and Ben Richards led the team, each shooting a round of 84, followed by Swanson (86) and senior Nick McElroth (87).
Goodrich will be competing in the Genesee County Tournament at 9 a.m. Sept. 22.
