The Goodrich boys golf squad capped an outstanding Genesee Area Conference season with a win in the Oct. 1 league meet.
The Martians clinched the league crown with a team score of 322 at the meet, held at Forest Acres East Golf Course, located at Michigan State University in East Lansing. Mt. Morris finished second (326) and Montrose third (333).
Phil Holloway was the leading golfer for the Martians, carding a score of 79, while Nick McElrath and Jared Swanson each finished with 80. Other Goodrich competitors were: Charlie Richards and Nick Wesener (83 apiece) and Ben Richards (89).
Goodrich was well represented on the all-league team announced earlier this month. Holloway and Charlie Richards were named to the first team, while Swanson, McElrath and Ben Richards were selected for the second team and Wesener made the honorable mention list.
The Martians competed in regional competition Friday, Oct. 10 at Holly Meadows Golf Course in Capac. They will compete in a field which includes Capac, Imlay City and LakeVille. The top three teams at regionals move on to states.
