Pair of mistakes hinder BHS kickers in loss to Oxford

A couple of mistakes did in the Brandon soccer team against visiting Oxford Oct. 6.
The visiting Wildcats scored one goal in the first half on a penalty kick and then another goal in the second half on a free kick to defeat the Blackhawks 2-0, dropping Brandon’s record to 4-9-2 overall and 2-6-1 in Flint Metro League play.
Despite the loss, Brandon coach Nathan Hunter said his team showed improvement against the Wildcats.
‘We didn’t play a bad game,? he said. ‘I thought it was a solid, competitive effort. On the first goal, one of our kids actually tripped over the heels of one of their players. The second goal was due to lack of communication on our part.?
Hunter also said the Blackhawks are an improved team since the start of the season.
‘I think our kids are playing much better,? he said. ‘We had some opportunities to finish (against Oxford) that we didn’t take advantage of.?
The Blackhawks return to action when they travel to Lapeer West Oct. 13 for a 5 p.m. game.
