Brandon Twp.- At the Jan. 7, Brandon Board of Education school board meeting the board elected members to president, vice president, treasurer and secretary.
Diane Salter was elected as president in a 5-2 vote against board member Kevin McClellan. Salter was also elected president for 2018.
“I’ve been on the board a little over six and a half years, and this was my first year as president and I feel that I was just starting to get the feel of things towards the end of the year,” said Salter. “I would like to continue in a positive, communicative direction with our board in hopes that we can get back better to the community and have a better year than we did, but I really want to work on community and communication.”
Board member Sarah Allen raised concerns with Salter being president of the school board again.
“I was here last year, and as a parent in the district, I have a strong feeling that never again can we treat parents the way I was treated in the district, whether we agree or disagree,” said Allen. “Our number one service is to our families and our students and we need to be respectful of that.”
Also elected unanimously were Lisa Kavalhuna as vice president, Marianne Dwyer as treasurer and Melissa Clark as secretary.
