Oakland County commissioners are sending a message to all state representatives and state senators from the county. They want local communities to have more control over approval, issuance, renewal or transfer of SDD and SDM liquor licenses.
According the Eric Wilson, district #3 commissioner, the county’s board of commissioners voted 25-0 in support of legislation that would increase that control. Wilson was one of the presenters of the resolution.
SDD and SDM licenses allow such businesses as convenience stores, drug stores and grocery stores to sell beer, wine and/or liquor.
Commissioners believe that sales outlets are increasing and that’s increasing the demand for services provided by local governments such as police enforcement.
The resolution points out local governments have a say in the approval process of Class C liquor licenses so why not extend that same process to SDD/SDM licenses.
