Have you always wanted a personal servant to handle those unpleasant and tedious household chores? Does the mere thought of manual labor make you break into a cold sweat?
Fear not, the Oxford High School Drama Club is offering the answer to your cheap labor prayers.
More than 25 Drama Club members will place themselves on the auction block 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 in the OHS Commons with the promise to do your bidding, if you place the highest bid, according to club member Abbey Londer.
From shoveling snow and washing dishes to babysitting the kids and cleaning the garage, Londer said Drama Club members will take care of almost any chore you need done – even picking up dog poop – in exchange for a cash contribution to their upcoming trip to New York City.
Club members are heading to the Big Apple April 30 through May 4 to attend broadway classes taught by professional actors and see the hit broadway show Hairspray.
“This is the first time we’ve taken any kind of trip like this, so we’re really excited,” Londer said. “The broadway classes will help us better our skills, our techniques on the stage.”
The trip will cost each student approximately $500, but not every Drama Club member has the money, hence the auction, Londer said.
In addition to the auction, the Drama Club is also soliciting sponsorships from local businesses.
Each student that goes on the trip will be wearing a special T-shirt featuring the names and logos of sponsors.
For a $25 donation, sponsors get their company name on the T-shirts. For a $50 donation, companies can get their name plus their logo.
A $100 donation gets the business name and logo on the T-shirts plus an ad in the programs for the club’s next three productions.
A contribution of $500 or more earns the sponsor a name and logo on the T-shirt, full page ad in the programs for the next three productions and four tickets to the club’s production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.
