If you’re wondering how much it costs to buy a high school student these days, the average seems to be about $25.
The going rate is based on the Oxford High School Drama Club’s “Maid or Butler for a Day” auction held Thursday, Feb. 12 in the school’s Commons.
Fifteen Drama Club members auctioned themselves and their labor skills off to the highest bidder in order to raise money for their big trip to New York City April 30 through May 4.
A total of $732 was raised by the auction ($540) and a raffle ($192) held in conjunction with it.
The minimum bid was $20 and winning bidders were guaranteed four hours labor from their teenage acquisitions.
Abbey Londer fetched the highest bid of the evening, being purchased by Larry Banachowski for $45.
Banachowski explained that Londer often drives his son to and from school and he wished to “repay her kindness.”
When Londer asked Banachowski what chore or chores he had in store for her, he replied, “You’ve already done the work. This is for all your kindness.”
Margaret Batcheler purchased the most student laborers, paying $25 each for Darren Johnston, Amy Verbeke, Manna Hara and Danny Inman. Students will spend their time “bringing (Batcheler) coffee, doing her shopping and cleaning her house.”
Lorieann Bosetti bought Danny Inman and Darren Johnston for $25 each and Tracy Pasike for $20 to do yard work.
Diane McCully needs her garage painted so she bought Abbey Londer ($20) and Peter Banachowski ($25) to do it.
