Loren Leroy Hotchkiss, a lifelong resident of Ortonville, Michigan, passed away on October 12, 2023, at the age of 89. Loren was born on April 23, 1934, in Brandon Township, Michigan, to his late parents, Leroy Edwin Hotchkiss and Bernice Elizabeth Hotchkiss (nee: Sherwood). He was the dear father of eight, survived by six children: Debra (Ron) Wagner, Diane (Barry) Hill, Tim (Fran) Hotchkiss, Denise (Mick) Bartos, Todd (Abby) Hotchkiss, and Loren (Amanda) Hotchkiss. Loren’s legacy lives on through his 28 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild, who was born on his 88th birthday. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn (Kenneth) Brown, and brother, Lee Raymond (Kathy) Hotchkiss. Loren was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Eunice Hotchkiss (nee:Morgan); daughter, Doreen (Paul) Breakie, son, Terry (Mary) Hotchkiss; sister Maxine (the late Roger) Jacobs and brother, Lyle (the late Ellen) Hotchkiss. Loren’s life was marked by notable achievements. He held a pilot’s license, owned his own plane, and maintained a private landing strip in the fields behind his home. He recently said that the years that he flew were some of the best of his life.  He wore many hats throughout his lifetime, serving as a farmer, realtor, builder and contractor. He was responsible for the construction of the building that now houses Tractor Supply in Ortonville, originally known as the Food Ranch. Loren retired from General Motors where he worked as a millwright. His greatest hope was that everyone would come to know and love Jesus. Visitation will be on Tuesday, the 17th from 4-8 pm. A funeral service to honor Loren’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, 11:00 am at Village Funeral Home, located at 135 South Street, Ortonville, Michigan. The service will be officiated by his nephew, Steve Carter. Following the service, interment will take place at Seymour Lake Cemetery, located off Sashbaw Rd in Brandon Township.
